Marcus Birkl, head of wireless at Siemens, said location tracking of assets or people was one of the biggest incentives for companies, hospitals and education institutions to roll out wi-fi networks.

Both firms were at The Wireless Event, in London, this week selling new products in the area of so-called real-time location services.

Siemens is pushing a complete system, developed with Finnish firm Ekahau, which can track objects or people.

Biometric Bombs and Public CCTV

The BBC News story is a little flashy, but the report it discusses raises issues that are extremely important. Important now, infinitely more important in the future. It's an older article, but it's worth taking a look at. There's much more in the article than just the bombs, and I don't think that's what the report focused on. It's just obvious. Biometric firearms already exist, why not a biometric detonator? We need to be concerned about this information, and the biometric bomb does serve as a good reminder of how scary it could get.

It shows how abuse of technology can expose people to harm by, for instance, terrorists crafting bombs that use the biometric data stored on passports to target specific nationalities.

It urges people to get more involved in the ways data about them is gathered.
